Catherization Lab

James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN

Scope:
BES Design/Build, LLC (BES D/B) provided design/build services to perform HVAC upgrades in the Catherization Lab in Building 204. BES D/B upgraded the Cath Lab HVAC system to comply with the VAMC requirements for operating rooms including linear bar and laminate ceiling diffusers, all stainless steel supply air ducts to procedure room, air filtration addition, and back-up source of cooling.

BES D/B demolished the existing mechanical HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and electronic and pneumatic controls systems. Modifications were made to the existing mechanical HVAC, plumbing, electrical, electronic and pneumatic controls and data communications systems. New construction included mechanical HVAC, plumbing, electrical, electronic controls and data communications systems.

The existing chilled water loop piping was utilized as a back-up method of cooling. All ductwork was replaced with stainless steel ductwork downstream of the existing duct silencers to the procedure room and new Hospital Operating Room Diffusers (HORD) system. All supply ductwork was replaced with stainless steel ductwork downstream of the VAV box to the equipment closet. The operating room has a HORD system with a perimeter of linear diffusers and a central laminar flow diffuser. Devices were field coordinated with the existing ceiling mounted equipment, and coordination was made to remove and replace/retrofit existing ceiling mounted equipment. One return register was added at a low location; opposite the other return grills in the room. New traps, isolation valves, etc. were provided. The controls were re-commissioned for constant volume and variable boxes that serve the space. All of the sprinkler heads were reworked within the renovated ceiling area. Power was reworked to the new air handling unit. The ceiling was renovated / replaced in the operating room and wall renovations were performed for old diffusers and for a new return register.

BES D/B furnished labor, materials, equipment and expert supervision as necessary to complete the design and construction for this project. BES D/B performed additional miscellaneous improvements and modifications. BES D/B provided both preliminary and final contract drawings, specifications and construction period services. We coordinated our schedule in order for the work to be performed in two phases over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays resulting in no operational downtime for the client.
